Aactually observing something rather peculiar are from the same website in Singapore. Sebastien So this data must have been collected over different time periods right Anna Nope. Both sets of numbers are from the same time period. Sebastien How could that be Anna Well out of curiosity we recently installed another online tracking tool on our Singapore website. So these sets of numbers are collected by two distinct tools. Sebastien That explains it. Have you figured out why they have such drastically different measurements of our Singapore site .
Anna Actually this is due to the different attribution rules these two tools adopt As you can see here the new tool we recently installed measures the source of direct traffic strictly according to how we get the traffic. So in this example visits via direct typein to the browser and Phone Number List from a search engine are counted as Direct visits and Search Engine visit. Whereas our current tool considers that any subsequent direct traffic arriving after a search is actually Search Engine visits the tool calculates that since the search engine brought this person to our site before its the search engine that generated the subsequent direct traffic. Sebastien Wow this difference in attribution rules could lead to very diverse conclusions on the effectiveness of various traffic acquisition initiatives. Lets meet with our CMO to discuss further.
As your digital marketing spend and online traffic grow its crucial to reevaluate the capacities and limitations of your analytics tool. As we all know there is no such thing as a free lunch free tools could come with bias and drawbacks like favouring certain traffic sources that are related to other parts of their business sampling data to reduce data processing lack of data ownership and more. Be aware of these particularities and differences in measurement and youll ensure a more accurate overall view.
